Assistant

This photograph was taken in 1986. It is a Polaroid of my assistant at the time. A year later we were married. It was taken in my studio on Lafayette Street, NYC and was the first photograph I took of her. Caroline loves to take pictures herself now and last week I assisted her—mostly carrying the tripod and camera bag.

  1. Lovely photo that brings back a lot of memories. I don't remember Caroline's hair tossed quite this way, but that posture and expression are undeniably hers. Very nice.

  3. This photo does bring back quite a lot of memories, bittersweet for me.
I did not know her very well, as I never seemed to hear her speak. She seems like a little sparrow, and I love her expression.

  4. To think Dmitri has put up with that expression for over 20 years!

  5. I would put it like this. 'To think Dmitri has had the privilege to enjoy this expression for over 20 years!' Let's face (no pun) it, he's a very fortunate man.

  7. I can't believe I've never seen this photograph of Caroline. I've always preferred her hair on the longer side. The entire look is fabulous and one she can still wear now.
